MUST SEE OLD HOLLYWOOD MOVIES

My fascination with pin-up keeps growing into weird direction. Provoked by Dita Von Tease’s book I started to check old hollywood stars and their performances here and there and realise that I still crave a bit more. I want to make a proper self-education in this domain.

The first poke I remember, it was background singing in “Gilmore girls” at a super romantic moment so it got wired into my brain as something warm and sweet, in-spite of the lyrics:

So I ended up with this basic 10 to-watch list with movies in 1940-1960 years:

1941 – Meet John Doe

A man needing money agrees to impersonate a nonexistent person who said he’d be committing suicide as a protest, and a political movement begins.

1942 – Casablanca

In Casablanca in December 1941, a cynical American expatriate encounters a former lover, with unforeseen complications.

1945 – Detour

!film noir! Chance events trap hitch-hiker Al Roberts in a tightening net of film noir trouble.

1948 – Rope

!Hitchcock! Two young men strangle their “inferior” classmate, hide his body in their apartment, and invite his friends and family to a dinner party as a means to challenge the “perfection” of their crime.

1950 – All about Eve

An ingenue insinuates herself into the company of an established but aging stage actress and her circle of theater friends.

1954 – Rear Window

!Grace Kelly! A wheelchair-bound photographer spies on his neighbours from his apartment window and becomes convinced one of them has committed murder.

1954 – A Star Is Born

A film star helps a young singer and actress find fame, even as age and alcoholism send his own career on a downward spiral.

1957 – 12 Angry Men

A jury holdout attempts to prevent a miscarriage of justice by forcing his colleagues to reconsider the evidence.

1959 – Anatomy of Murder

In a murder trial, the defendant says he suffered temporary insanity after the victim raped his wife. What is the truth, and will he win his case?

1960 – The Apartment

A man tries to rise in his company by letting its executives use his apartment for trysts, but complications and a romance of his own ensue.

Anyone would join me or add some suggestions?
